GREAT Scholarships

For a variety of one-year taught postgraduate degree courses, GREAT scholarships are available to overseas students from 14 different countries. In England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, more than 49 universities will offer more than 200 scholarships during the academic year 2023–24. Each scholarship is co-funded by the UK government and the collaborating schools (UCL, University of Nottingham, New Castle University, etc.).

Overview

 

GREAT Scholarships are jointly funded by Cardiff University with the UK government’s Great Britain campaign and the British Council.

 

The GREAT Scholarships programme, launched by the British Council together with 41 UK universities, supports postgraduate students to access world-class UK higher education opportunities.

 

The scholarship programme offers financial support of £10,000 to eligible students pursuing one year postgraduate study.

Eligibility Criteria

 

Eligibility differs based on your host country. The general eligibility includes:

 

You must be from one of the eligible countries.

 

  • Have an undergraduate degree.

 

  • Be motivated, have an interest in the proposed subject area.

 

  • Meet the English language requirement of the UK HEI.

 

  • Establish an engagement with the UK as a scholar, through personal and academic fulfilment.

 

  • Be willing to attend a networking event of all UK based GREAT scholars, to discuss experiences and capture perceptions of studying in the UK.

 

  • Be willing to maintain contact with the British Council and their HEI and act as an ambassador for the GREAT Scholarships.

 

  • Be willing occasionally to speak to potential candidates about his or her own experience of studying in the UK.

 

Application Process For GREAT Scholarship

  • The deadline to apply for a GREAT Scholarship varies according to each institution.

 

  • Successful scholars will be informed by individual universities on the result of their applications.

 

  • Scholarship funding will be issued to successful scholars by individual universities after registration. 

 

Selection Process For GREAT Scholarships

 

Based on pre-set criteria, the British Council panel will review each application. An interview will be conducted for the candidates who have been shortlisted as part of the final selection process.

 

GREAT Scholarship recipients will be informed by the university and will issue the funding after registration.

 

The selection panel of the British Council will make the final call on awarding the scholarship. Selected candidates will have to make their financial arrangements for the living, travel, and study in the UK.
