Overview Of Chevening Scholarship

Chevening offers fully funded scholarships and fellowships to individuals with ideas to create positive change.

Chevening is the UK government’s international scholarships and fellowships programme.

Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations, they offer individuals who show potential to inspire, inform, and influence positive change the opportunity to study at a UK university to gain a UK educational qualification.

Chevening Scholarships enable outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the UK.

Chevening Scholarship Value

  • Full payment of Masters tuition fees, up to £18,000.

  • Payment of travel to and from the UK.

  • Payment of visa application fees.

  • A monthly living allowance (stipend) for accommodation and expenses – this amount will be confirmed in your acceptance letter and will be higher if you’re studying in London.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship you must:

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.

  • Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended.

  • Have completed all components of an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university by the time you submit your application. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK but may be different depending on your course and university choice.

  • Have at least two years (equivalent to 2,800 hours) of work experience.

  • Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these universities.

Application Process For Chevening Scholarship

You can apply for a Chevening Scholarship by selecting your country from the drop-down list at www.chevening.org/apply.

After submitting your application, it will be assessed against Chevening’s eligibility criteria. Those applications that are deemed eligible will then be assessed by independent reading committees, who will create a long list of applicants.

If you are shortlisted, you will be invited to submit references and attend an interview with the British embassy or high commission in the country to which you applied. These face-to-face interviews are conducted in English by a panel, who will ask you questions about your personal and professional goals, and how a Chevening Scholarship would help you achieve them. Your choice of courses will also be taken into consideration. The panel will then score your interview against the global Chevening criteria.
